Weekend Recap

Well, just like every weekend, this one went by too fast!

Friday night, Wesley had an out of town soccer game, so I went with two other friends and a very handsome three year old to O'Charley's for dinner and to the theater to see Alvin and the Chimpunks - the Squeakquel. It was cute and we all had a great time!

Saturday morning, we headed down to Elba to eat lunch with Wesley's family and celebrate his Aunt Pam's 60th birthday! It was great to eat such a nice home cooked meal. That's what I've been wanting these days.

Then, we headed to Dothan and ate dinner at Mama G's and got to see my brother's band, Exit 13. They were UHH-MAZING! I have their cd and LOVE it, but they're even better in person!

Today, we've had a lazy day. Wesley is fighting off pink eye (and I'm fighting to NOT get pink eye!). We did some laundry and dishes (well, I did laundry and dishes) and did some major damage at Wal-Mart!

I also finally gave in and got one of these. I couldn't take it anymore. I also went to a friend from work's house and she let me borrow two more pregnancy books and no less than 15 pairs of pants in the next size up. She also had a ton of diapers that her little girl, Kherington, had out grown and she was sweet enough to let me have those and some lotion to prevent stretch marks (which I do NOT want to have! I'm too young for those!).

It's been a good weekend. I'm wishing we had one more day off! Tomorrow I have another doctor's appointment, so that will at least get me through the day! I'm just very curious as to what's going to happen this time. Let's just say, we got 'up close and personal' last time I went - in a way that I wasn't thinking we would until August!

Tonight we had dinner with Uncle Lamar, Aunt Jan, and Grandmama, and Uncle Lamar brought up an interesting realization that Wesley could be the "end of the Taff line" (being the only son). That never even entered my mind. Uncle Lamar said he was placing his money on a girl.

So, are you ready for the big news????

Well, Wesley and I are going to be PARENTS! ahhh!

To answer all of the questions we've gotten over the past few days:

"Yes, we're very excited."

"Yes, we're shocked and surprised (well, I am at least. Wesley says he's not anymore)."

"No, we were not planning it."

(I was on the pill - didn't skip any - not on any antibiotics either).

"I am 14 weeks today.

I'm due on Aug. 26 (just in time to go to school for a few weeks)."

"Yes, I'm going to come back to work (as if we could live in this house, have a baby, and LIVE on ONE TEACHER'S salary!)."

"No, I don't know what we're doing about daycare yet."

"Sure, you can babysit (albeit, I know you and trust you!)" : )

"We've known since just before Christmas. And I have no idea how we kept the secret so long."

"I've felt nauseous, but haven't thrown up. It's gotten A LOT better though. I have been SO. SO. SO. SO. SO. TIRED!"

"For the most part, my pants still fit. My dress pants for work are kinda tight. I end up unbuttoning them by lunch and I feel like my butt looks HUGE in them. My jeans and khakis that were somewhat loose before, fit perfect now. Sad. I feel fat. Already."

(I've already had my own little pity party that I'm not a true size ? anymore. I won't tell you the size, because when I was talking to another teacher at school about it today, she just rolled her eyes. I know I'm going to have to get over that. I'm just afraid I won't lose all the weight after the pregnancy is over. To be completely honest, I'm not afraid of having a baby. I'm afraid of being a fatty.) Very immature of me, I know.

"Yes, I told my class today. They were excited. One little girl screamed, 'YESSSSS! I've always wanted to be a big sister!' hahahaha! Another little boy asked me if he could babysit (yehhh, riiiiight)."

"Yes, we have names picked out, but are not telling until we know the gender of the baby, which will be the first part of April."

"Yes, I've heard the heartbeat. Twice now."

So there's the scoop! It's nice to finally tell. We waited so long to tell because we wanted to tell our parents at the same time, when they were all four together. And that was a little more difficult than we originally thought it'd be to get them all together!

I was searching around for some information online. At 14 weeks (now - hello second trimester) the baby is 3 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 ounces (approximately the size of a lemon). The liver has now started making bile, and the spleen has now begun to aide in the production of little baby's very own red blood cells!

The coolest thing that has now occurred (in my opinion anyway) is that the baby now has its own set of fingerprints! From what I read, fingerprints are created from 'swimming around in amniotic fluid.' As little baby moves its hands around in there, the skin on his/her (Wesley doesn't like me calling the baby an "it") fingertips forms very unique ridges and folds, which is why no one (even identical twins) have the same set of fingerprints. Cool, huh?!

While we were in Chicago, we went to a Lego's store.

They had Lego's by color. This really reminded me of those M & Ms stores where you can buy the candy by the color.

Weekend Recap

We had a good bit of family in town this weekend. We go to church on Saturday nights and at the service this weekend, Wesley was baptized! He has been saved for several years, grew up Methodist, and was baptized as a baby, but since we're going to a Baptist church, he decided to be baptized (or should I say dunked?) after joining the church.

So, I'm FINALLY posting some pictures from our trip to see Brian in Cago (as in Chicago) over MLK weekend. My dad says they call it Chi-town instead of Cago. But, hey, I like my way better. It slightly reminds me of Cauga as in Sylacauga (but if you're not from AL, that doesn't make sense anyway).

These aren't my pictures, they're Wesley's. I'll have to update when I have my MIA camera cord (actually, I lie. I know where it is...I should say when I get my camera cord from my classroom).

Anywho, here's just a FEW pictures of things we did. I have different pictures on my camera.

Ever wonder what the END of I-65 looks like? Well, this is it.

For lunch on Saturday we had hotdogs here. They were sooo good! Different, but good.

This was just a firehouse that Wesley liked! The building is very pretty. Quite different from the ones around here.

We also saw Tribune Towers and the Chicago Tribune.

And the Chicago River.

It was not moving at all (I'm sure it was beneath the surface, but those ice chunks were solid!).

All I could think of when we were here was the Titanic (mostly the movie, I did think about those people who were really on the boat too). Wesley looked at me like I was crazy when I mentioned how cold Rose and Jack must have been when they were waiting to be rescued. : )

Wesley was dying to see Wrigley Field, so we did! Well...the outside of the stadium anyway.

It was so different from Turner Field. All the buildings nearby have seating on top! Very cool.

Lazy Day

We had the day off school today for President's Day and it's been soooo nice. A much needed day! I started out my day with Girl Scout Cookies straight from the freezer (I mean, how can your day be bad when it gets off to that kind of start?!) and I haven't even gotten out of my pajamas! I have been slightly productive. I folded three loads of laundry, did some dishes, finished up our tax stuff, and made pork chops, red potatoes, and green beans for lunch. Other than that I've watched about seven straight episodes (yes, I realize that is seven hours) of NCIS.

Wesley had to leave a few hours ago for a Varsity girls game in Wetumpka and won't be back until late. So, I'm looking forward to eating a box of the cheap-o mac and cheese for supper (mmm, I love that stuff) and falling asleep in the middle of the bed! : )

And, just because it's President's Day, and he's my favorite president, have you seen these bill boards? I love George. He's just so cute!

Oh, and completely random, but I finally talked Wesley into letting me order and put up one of those wall quotes on our wall. I found one I loved on Etsy and it finally came in! We got it put up (on the wall above the TV), and while I still like it, I was a wee bit disappointed (don't tell Wesley, he'll say take it down, haha!). It wasn't quite as big as I thought it would be and the "Wonderful" part was NOT the color I ordered. I ordered it in gold, just like the picture, but this one came in a creamy white color. So, I've reordered the "Wonderful" part in red this time. Hopefully, it'll look better. I'll post pictures once it comes in!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today, Wesley and I celebrated our SIXTH (gahhh-lee!) Valentine's Day together, but our first one as a married couple.

In the past, every Valentine's Day we've made breakfast for supper together, complete with heart-shaped sausage biscuits! I was all for doing that again this year, but Wesley said we should do something different since we were married this year and we both have jobs. So we did! He surprised me, which was the first time he's ever done that! haha, I hate surprises.

So, tonight we got all dressed up and headed out to dinner. But, not before I got some very pretty flowers! : ) I didn't know where we were going until we got there. But, we ended up going to Houlihan's in Columbus. It was my first time going there and it was sooo good! I had chicken fettucini alfredo and Wesley had chicken parmesan. We even went all out and sprang for dessert! I had strawberries creme brulee (my aboslute favorite!) and Wesley had a Snicker's ice cream dome thing (which I of course tried some of). They were both delicious! It was a nice treat; we never go out to eat (unless it's with our parents or Wesley's grandmother or ChickfilA, ha!).

When we got back home, we exchanged gifts. It was killing me to wait that long. I had no idea what Wesley got me. I hadn't really dropped any hints this year - mainly because I couldn't think of anything I was just really wanting.

I gave Wesley some 20lb weights that he was wanting for his P90X stuff and a ping-pong paddle/ball holder to go on the wall in the storage closet. And Wesley got me tickets to see these two in March! SOOOOOooo EXCITED about it! : )

Funny enough, our very first Valentine's Day together (5 years ago) Wesley gave me tickets to see Rascal Flatts (and Blake Shelton). The concert is in March and I'm really excited!

Snow Day

Today we had only a half day of school because of the snow that was coming. While a whole day off (a four day weekend) would have been nice, we got out early, don't have to make it up, and I only had half my class there. However, without going into detail, I will say that it was not a fun day at school. Let's just say for the first time in my life, I found myself crying in the principal's office! People can be so mean sometimes and teachers have feelings too!

After school, Wesley and I came home, ate lunch, and I took a LONG nap. Naps make everything better! When I got up we had around three inches of snow and the hubby had been busy in the yard!

While the snow is fun, especially down here in south Alabama, I am soooo ready for spring and summer! I hate winter. I hate the cold. I hate dressing for winter. I don't like my winter clothes. But, hey, it's mid-February, how much longer could it go on down in the south?

Happy Snow Day and hooray for a 3 day weekend!

Super Bowl Commericials

I don't think I've ever watched a Super Bowl before, but I have seen the commercials! Have you heard about Tebow's controversial commercial he's doing?

Tebow seems to be one of those guys you either love him or ya hate him. Although, regardless of loyalties to universities (my in-laws are huge FSU fans!), you can't tell me if you had a son or brother just like Tim Tebow, you wouldn't be proud of him?

Seriously, go read it. It will be worth your time.

Here are some of my favorite parts:

"We're always harping on athletes to be more responsible and engaged in the issues of their day, and less concerned with just cashing checks. It therefore seems more than a little hypocritical to insist on it only if it means criticizing sneaker companies, and to stifle them when they take a stance that might make us uncomfortable."

"Here's what we do need a lot more of: Tebows. And, finally, I love the part where she talks about males having some sexual-restraint, and if they did, women may be scheduling fewer abortions (although, I think it's important to note, "it takes two to tango" and maybe women should have some sexual-restraint too...I'm just saying....). Then she says that the best way not to have an unwanted pregnancy is don't get the sperm and the egg together in the first place!

So, on Sunday, I will be watching the Superbowl, not for the Colts or Saints (pro football just really doesn't do it for me), but for Tebow and his ad. And hey, regardless of how funny they maybe (and they are), this ad sure has a better message than some of those beer commercials decked out with idiocy and scantly-clad women.
