Good Riddance

For 2 1/2 years now I've had Lishak (named after one of my favorite teachers at Auburn) aka the General...General Lee....get it?

Anywho, she's been a good little kitty. She provided me with a lot of companionship when I had none. We've actually been trying to get rid of her for awhile now. A baby changes everything, right?

Well, last night was the first and last for us. I came home from my cake class (no pictures this week...I'm no good at cupcakes. They were hard.). As I pulled in the driveway I noticed a big, fat, stray cat was standing at our carport door. But, as I pulled on in the cat ran away. When I went in the house Li was acting a little funny; I assume it was because they'd been sniffing each other. A few minutes later I'm sitting on the couch holding sleeping Eli, and Wesley is on the love seat across the room. Li goes to the door and starts sniffing and inspecting the door. I start to tell Wesley about the other cat. We decided to put Li in the laundry room.

I stand up, still holding Eli, and try to shoo Li away from the door. That's when it happened. She turned on us. She began to scream and moan SO LOUDLY! She hissed at me. I screamed. I honestly thought she was going to jump on me and Eli. I ran back to the couch and threw a blanket over Eli and I. Wesley threw a shoe at her. Hard. She carried on hissing and screaming through the house for over 3o minutes.

Wesley finally lured her out the front door. I was DONE with her the minute I felt that Eli's (and Wesley and I's) safety was threatened. Long story, but Wesley got her in her carrier and we took her to the vet. The story doesn't sound nearly as dramatic as it was. It was pretty intense here for awhile. We weren't sure how it was going to end....although I would have loved to been a fly on the wall: me screaming, Eli sleeping through the whole thing, Wesley with a shoe and a broom!

SO-we are pet-free in this house. I miss her ... but only a little bit. It's just a little strange not to hear her bell or see her in the house. But, it's nice that my laundry room is so clean. No cat food crumbs anywhere! We were trying to slim our budget down too.....so Li just saved us at least $25 a month. I'm glad she's gone, but I hate that we had to end it this way.

The Weekend

Why is it that the weekends always go by SOO QUICKLY? I sure could use a three day weekend right now, but tomorrow is our make-up day for the snow day we had in January. I'm going to miss our Presidents Day Holiday, but I am very thankful to have a job to get up and go to; and one that I love at that.

This little guy went to his very first soccer game last week.

We went to cheer Daddy (the coach) on. Soccer is not the most interesting sport to me, but the girls were a little catty at this game so it sure did make for some good entertainment!

Little man's weekend started a day early when Nana came to bust him out of daycare on her day off. Those two had a great time together! Nana continued her babysitting duties Friday night. Wesley and I went to a couple's shower for a couple from our BFG (Bible Fellowship Group) that are getting married. We had SUCH a good time. We ate, talked, played great funny shower games, and then played the Newlywed Game. We stayed out until 11:00 (which may not seem like a big deal to y'all, but it sure was for me)! We had such a good time. We're so blessed to have such great friends!

Saturday was spent doing chores around the house and then church and BFG. Sunday was pretty much the same.

Cake Class 2

Cookies the first week and a cake the second week! Our 'homework' was to make a double batch of buttercream icing and bake a single layer cake and bring it to class in order to decorate there.

I came away with this:

Not too bad for my first time. What got me in trouble was I spent so much time trying to smooth out my icing. The perfectionist in me wanted it...well, perfect! So I then had to spend the last 25 minutes of class trying to decorate the cake. I think it would have looked better had I taken my time to decorate it. But it sure did taste good!

This weekend our homework is to make cupcakes and make another batch of icing to decorate our cupcakes with. I'm excited about cupcakes! Wesley is loving this class. We have lots of sweet treats in our house!

Valentine's Day Weekend

Saturday was kind of a lazy day. Wesley had some girl's soccer stuff that took up the entire morning, so Eli and slept in, dropped by to see Wesley, went to Michael's to get stuff so I could do my cake homework for class on Monday, went to Tar-jay, and then to Wally.

I spent the afternoon making homemade peppermint patties. It was part of Wesley's Valentine's gift (we decided to keep it low key this year). If you know me at all, you know I despise anything minty (I usually use a fruit flavored toothpaste), so this was an act of love.

Ok, not quite that dramatic....but still.....

I used this recipe. I made a few changes. I used melting chocolate for candy making instead of chocolate chips, and I used a candy mold. It seemed less messy to me that way. I suppose they turned out a success. They looked good and my husband highly approves! : )

That night Eli and I got all dressed up and began dropping hints.

Thankfully, Wesley is a smart guy and picked up on those hints! : )

We went (sans baby) to the Peppermill Grill and had such a good time. Valentine's fell on a school night (and cake night) this year, so we got our time in the weekend before. We kept it pretty low key this year, no gifts, but I did come home Monday night to a cooked meal and these!

Reading and Rolling

It's never to start learning how to read! Or at least to recognize your own name.

We got a new rug for our kitchen (a whole kitchen post is coming as soon as I get my kitchen curtains finished and hung). We have a pretty open kitchen, which we love! We tend to congregate in there while we cook dinner, do dishes, wash bottles, etc., so I wanted something that Eli could play on besides the cold, hard tile. Well, yesterday afternoon we were going through our usual afternoon routine. I put Eli on the floor and started unpacking his bottles.

I heard grunting and groaning, I looked back, and this is what I saw!

Night School

So Monday night I started taking classes at night...cake decorating classes that is! I'm taking them at Michael's with one of my oldest friends (since 8th grade), Sarah, and her sister.

There's 10 people in the class, ranging from high schoolers to retired people, with everything in between. One of the first things we did was go around and introduce ourselves.

"Hi, I'm Rebecca. I do basic cooking and baking. I love my kitchen aide stand mixer and use it at least three times a week. I'm taking this class because Sarah wanted to and asked me if I would too."

*Flashback*

I was on the flag line/color guard in high school and college all because Sarah wanted to try out when we were in 8th grade. I didn't even have any idea what I was getting myself in to, but I ended up LOVING it!

We decorated sugar cookies and just practiced working with different tips. These are the cookies I did.

I have homework this weekend: to make a 'naked, one layer cake and a double batch of homemade buttercream icing! Next week we will be decorating cakes. I can't wait! Thanks for showing me one more thing I didn't know I loved to do, Sarah!
