Thankful Thursday

My husband declares this month each year as "No-shave November".  I say we're not in college anymore, he's a little old for that.  : )  I prefer to reflect and be thankful all month long!

Today I'm especially thankful for:
*my little man who is snuggled up to me right now.

*my husband, who among many other things, is my assistant paper grader at night.

*scarf weather

*hot chocolate

*the groceries in my kitchen

*our parents, who we get to see this weekend

*the Word
Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
and because I love you, ....

5K

This weekend was the 5k that I started training for 9 weeks ago.  We've run this 5k four years in a row now (see here and here).  It's one our school system puts on.  But this is the first time I've every actually FINISHED c25k, and what a difference it makes!

We arrived at the school a little early to get registered and talk to people.  Eli made a beeline for the playground.

Pre-race family picture!

My goal was 38 minutes.  In all of my training I've kept a 13ish minute pace.  In other words, slow, but my goal was really just to finish.

It's a smaller race (and gets smaller each year).  Only about 30 runners, and a lot of them were very fast!  Wesley had intended to run this race and set a new record for himself (under 24 minutes), but he's been struggling with an Achilles injury and wasn't able to do that, so he and Eli took it nice and easy and ran with momma!

Here I am after I've crossed.  My official time was 34:37 - making my average pace 11:30ish, which I was very pleased with!  I even only walked about 15 yards of the last terrible incline.

Even though it's certainly not my first 5k experience, it was definitely my best.  I don't want to lose all that I've gained (and that happens so quickly), so I hope to keep up the running and find a few more 5ks to do before it really gets too cold to be outside.

Afterward the race Eli enjoyed playing on the blow-ups!

The rest of our weekend was full of Christmas Made in the South with my mom and the Auburn v. Texas A&M game with Nana and Puddin.  Although the Tigers were pitiful, we had a great time.  We also enjoyed getting to watch Jonathan Wallace get some time at QB.  He's from Phenix City and we were watching him play HS ball last year!  He did a great job, certainly more consistency than Mosley and Frazier, so we hope we get to watch more of him this season.

This next week is a full week for us with Halloween coming.  I hope Eli doesn't pitch too much of a fit in his costume!

The Pumpkin Patch

We took our annual trip to the Pumpkin Patch in Fortson today.  I can't get over how much Eli has grown.  Here and here are our previous trips, to the same pumpkin patch!

Eli felt the need to prove what kind of climber he really is.

Momma needs to get Eli some new jeans.  These are still *a little* long.  Apparently we're not quite ready for 2T yet.  : )

Eli kept saying "this one!"  He wanted to take home all of the pumpkins!

 Family Pumpkin Patch Photo

I just realized that Eli's belly was hanging out.  *oops!*
Showing off how strong and big he is!

Daddy and Eli showing off how scaaaary the spider is!

Then Eli decided that spider wasn't so scary and instead we should all sing Itsy, Bitsy Spider.  So we did.

By far his favorite thing was putting his face in all of the cut-outs.  He loved it!

Pumpking Patch 2012 was a success!

After an afternoon of picking pumpkins, we had to rest and drink some juice before making the long haul back to the car!  : )

Wordless Wednesday

In about 7 or 8 years my child will probably be mortified to learn this is on here...

Another Check on the Bucket List

This is my very first guest blogging post.  I was able to talk my wonderful husband into sharing about his recent trip.  Enjoy!

So it all started with a phone call from "Puddin'" over the summer. He asked me if I wanted to go to a Notre Dame game in October. Me, being a big fan of the movie Rudy and knowing some of the famous places in South Bend, said OF COURSE!
So the football season starts early September and I'm pumped about Auburn football. It's going to be a great season and we're going to finish 3rd in the SEC West. We lose our opener to Clemson, but it's okay because they have a really talented quarterback and running back. Then we lose to Mississippi St., but that's not too big of a surprise because they've been getting better each year under Dan Mullen. Then we pull off the overtime win against Louisiana Monroe. But it's not time to worry yet because they just came off of a win last week against Arkansas who is supposed to awesome this year... just like Auburn. Then we play a very close game to LSU and only lose by 2 points. So it's still not all that bad. But then comes Arkansas, who is obviously struggling. So this should be an easy win, right? Not so fast my friends. The team doesn't show up and Arkansas runs all over us.

All the while, Notre Dame is having an undefeated season. And so is Standford (who Notre Dame was playing for the game we went to). I'm keeping up with them, somewhat living vicariously through them for my Auburn Tigers. Stanford loses to Washington three weeks before they played Notre Dame, but it's okay because ESPN's College Gameday will be there for the show down of the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. the 5-1 Stanford Cardinals! I AM PUMPED!!

The weekend finally gets here and Puddin' and I take Friday off from work to start our travels. We left that morning at 7:30. Went through Atlanta, Chatanooga, Nashville, Louisville, and finally stopped in Indianapolis for the night. Saturday morning couldn't get here soon enough!

We wake up at 6am, get ready, eat breakfast, and hit the road towards South Bend. In case you've never been on Indiana Highway 31, it's A LOT of farms and corn fields. On the way, we're checking the weather and realize that the chances of us getting in the car at the end of the day without wet clothes are the same as Auburn going to the SEC championship game this year.

We arrive in South Bend and find a guy who's selling parking spaces in his front yard for $20. It was right next to campus and was $10 cheaper than every other place we drove past, so we pulled onto his front yard and headed towards campus.

At this point I was pumped, because I knew I was about to see one of the most iconic college campuses in America. Then, in the distance we can see the famous Touchdown Jesus. And it is HUGE! Then we see the golden dome and the stadium. I can't wait to see them up close.

We go to Touchdown Jesus first because we saw that College Gameday was set up in front of "him" the night before. Here's a shot of what we saw.

After seeing game day and actually going into the building that Touchdown Jesus is on (which is actually the campus' library), we went to see the golden dome. It's the administration building for Notre Dame.

Right next to the golden dome was the cathedral. I knew they had a place for Mass on campus, but didn't realize that it would be a cathedral that matches the size and elegance of the National Cathedral. Inside had many rows of pews, painted ceilings, golden chandeliers, and architectural masterpieces.

After visiting the sites of campus, and waiting around inside for about an hour because it was raining, it was finally time to enter Notre Dame Stadium! Once we got in, we started finding our section and seats. Puddin' and I were both surprised to find out that our seats were 23 rows from the field and dead on the 50 yard line! There's not much room between the field and where the seats start. When the teams were warming up (seen below), we could hear every word the coaches were saying. I couldn't wait until the game started.

Another part of the trip that I couldn't wait for was to hear the Notre Dame marching band play "the best fight song in America" (according to the announcer). I'm more partial to War Eagle myself. But it was awesome to hear it live!

Once the game started, I kept the camera under the poncho most of the time because it never really stopped raining. To recap, Notre Dame struggled to move the ball offensively most of the game. Stanford started looking good in the 2nd quarter, and I was kind of worrying that the (probably) only trip I make to South Bend, Notre Dame was going to lose. They were behind 17-14 and had the ball with 5 minutes to go. They started driving down the field when the starting quarterback was taken down hard. He had to leave the game and the backup came in. Now I'm really worried because from what I've experienced from backup quarterbacks this year from Auburn hasn't been good. But this kid comes in and takes Notre Dame down the field to get them in field goal range. The kick is good and we're going into overtime.

Notre Dame gets the ball first and the backup quarterback throws a beautiful touchdown pass to give them the lead. Stanford gets the ball, and the stadium finally gets LOUD. Being from Auburn, I'm used to the home crowd getting LOUD almost every time the opposing team has the ball, but this was the first time the whole game that the stadium sounded like they wanted their Fighting Irish to win.

Stanford moves the ball down the field and makes it to the 4 yard line for a 1st down. They have 4 really good chances to make it into the end zone. But Notre Dame's defense steps it up and stop them 4 plays in a row to get the victory!!

This trip was a dream of every American male who follows college football. I never thought that I would get to experience it, but then again, I never thought that I would have as great of a father-in-law as I do. A big thanks to Mike Petty for the trip of a lifetime! GO FIGHTING IRISH!!

Our Weekend

So, I forgot to pull out my camera this weekend, so this is a boring, wordy post : )

*Wesley and my Dad logged about 1,600 miles on "Aubie car" this weekend.  They took Friday off work and drove to South Bend, Indiana, to see Notre Dame take on Stanford.  Despite being wet throughout the whole game, they had a great time!  I'm glad they got to see Notre Dame when, because it sure isn't happening for Auburn this season.  War Eagle anyway.

*Mom stayed with Eli and I for the weekend while the boys were on their road trip.  We played, did a lot of walking/running at the lake, made a trip to Hobby Lobby, hemmed some pants, got a Redbox, went to a birthday party for one of Eli's friends, caught up on some movies on LifeTime and Hallmark Channel, went to church, and had a great time just hanging around the house!  I forgot to take any pictures though.

*This week is week EIGHT of c25k.  I'm feeling pretty good about my running.  Sometimes I have to syke myself up to go, but I always feel good about it afterwards.  I've run 25 minutes without stopping.  I don't think I've done that since high school.  Or maybe my AUMB/pregame days anyway. At least I don't have to have a smile plastered to my face while doing c25k.  The middle parts of my run, between 9-16 minutes are always my hardest.  It takes me about to that 16 minute mark to make those voices in my head stop and just run.  Only 12 days until the 5k!

*My bff Ashley, told me about this great new series called Chronicles of the Kings, based on 1 and 2 Kings out of the Old Testament.  Ashley and I have basically read the same things, so I know any book she recommends is great.  So far I'm loving it.  The first book, Gods and Kings, is a free download (I know on Kindle and iBooks), btw, so go get it and happy reading!

*My new favorite song right now (although it's not exactly new) is "Jesus Friend of Sinners" by Casting Crowns.  It's good stuff.

*Eli is STILL waking up at least 2x a night. every night.  And, he's not sleeping through nap time without waking up either.  Looks like we'll be back at the dr. sometime this week.  I have a terrible headache, and I think it's from lack of deep sleep.  Those pesky ears.  I think I'm going to start laying hands on him and fervently praying Proverbs 3:24 over him.  No joke.

And, finally, the really important stuff....

Who saw Miley Cyrus on Jay Leno this weekend?  What the heck?!!!?  I mean, is she going through some stuff?  What did she do to her hair?  And she obviously doesn't know, or believe in, 'modest is hottest'.  SMH.

(IDK why my videos are so large.  I really don't care to take the time to figure it out either. Sorry.)

 Have a great week!

Cohort C

Last weekend I left my boy for the first time ever...for 2 years and 2 months I've never been more than just a few minutes away from him.  I left Eli in the good hands of his Daddy for their own little boys weekend....
Boys weekend began with a Superhero birthday party!

while I headed off to the beach with my Cohort C (+ 1) girls.  Cohort C was the name of our elementary education cohort at Auburn...more than five years ago!

Here we are 5 years ago, 2007, single and wearing 2 piece swimsuits....obviously unaware of what our bodies would go through over these 5 years...

And here we are in 2012, rockin' our 'mom'suits...
Notice this time you didn't get a full body shot!  : )

My friend Brittany, who did an awesome job of putting together this trip, shared some stats on her blog about the difference between the girls in the first picture and the girls in the second picture:

*6 weddings have occurred
*4 babies, 1 on the way, and 3 precious ones are in Heaven with o)ur Jesus
*3 SAHM and 3 full time teachers (2 pastors wives)
*5 of us have blogs...get on that, Jessica!
*And after this trip, we all now have Twitter and Instagram too.

I'm grateful for social media.  It makes it so easy to keep up with these (and other) friends, (and to pick up right where we left off last time we were together), but this trip was just what I needed.  I slept through the night. every night.  I caught up on some great conversation and great things in the life of my friends.  We ate out every night - yay food trucks!...and may have even taken a baby (the pastor's baby) to a bar, but don't worry, we went for the food and atmosphere.  I mean, we all had water to drink-that's how we roll.  We took naps on the beach and swam in the ocean.  We played cards and watched movies.  We laughed, we cried, we ate cookie dough and made daquiris and pina coladas from Sprite.

We're wild, we know.  It was a lot like our days in Auburn, minus making stupid soap carvings and Gee's Bend quilts for Chi-Chi (aka Boobs)...but that's a whole other story.  It was just what I needed.

Thanks to my great husband for sending me on this little get-away, candy and reading material for my trip, and even the nice fall flowers for when I got back.  It was such a perfect weekend.  Let's do it again, girls...but not wait 5 more years.
